Dr Ooi Keng-Boon (DEng, PhD) is a Professor of Industrial Management & Information Systems and currently the Dean of the Faculty of Business & Information Science at UCSI University, Malaysia. Prior to his academic career, he was a senior IT engineer in a multinational semiconductor factory for 8 years.

In recognition of his outstanding academic leadership achievements, Dr Ooi received the Highly Commended Award in the Research/Academic category from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia at the Alumnus of the Year Awards in 2016. He was honoured with the National Outstanding Researcher Award (University Category) for Industrial Management & Information Systems discipline in the annual Private Education Excellence Award 2017 Event organized by Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia. He was awarded the Malaysia’s Research Star Award (MRSA) 2018 by the Ministry of Education Malaysia under the Top Peer Reviewer category from Clarivate Analytics (UK). Throughout the years, Dr Ooi has been conferred awards not only in research but also in review, which further testifies to his research prowess and capabilities. Among the notable mentions include Best Paper Award (2010), Best Research Award (2013), and Honorable Mention Award (2014) at the Technology Innovation & Industrial Management (TIIM) Conference. Dr Ooi was recently awarded the 2018 Publons Peer Review Award (Clarivate Analytics, UK) in which he was listed among the World’s Top 1% reviewers in the field of “Social Sciences, General”. He was also recognized for Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing by five different Elsevier Journals (Expert Systems with Applications, 2017; Technology in Society, 2017; Information & Management, 2018; Computers Human in Behavior, 2018; Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, 2018) and Emerald Literati Club Awards for Excellence in recognition of being the Outstanding Reviewer for Industrial Management & Data Systems in 2011 & 2016 (Emerald, ISI; SCI), and Online Information Review in 2014 (Emerald, ISI; SCI). He was named the recipient of the Best Reviewer Award by the Editor-in-Chief of Total Quality Management & Business Excellence from 2010 to 2014 (Taylor & Francis, ISI; SSCI).

He has authored and co-authored over 100 papers in international refereed journals, of which more than 80 journal papers were published in journals indexed to Thomson Reuters ISI-Web of Science. His current Harzing’s publish or perish H-index is 51 (Scopus H-index = 37; Thomson ISI-Web of Science H-Index = 32), with over 7700 citations received from diverse authors and journals across the fields of information technology and industrial management. This includes papers in top-ranked journals such as Decision Support Systems (DSS),

His research works have also been identified in 2015 as the Most Critical 50 Highly Cited Paper in Technology Acceptance Research, in an article titled “Citations-based analysis of literature: A case study of technology acceptance research” under the Scientometrics (Springer; ISI; SCIE). The ranking was based on the citation network constructed from a total of 1555 journal articles published from 1989-2014 using Web of Science (ISI; WOS) database. These papers have been ranked alongside with Davis (1989)’s paper (the creator of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)), and Venkatesh et al., (2003)’s paper (the creator of Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). In addition, his works were acknowledged as the Most Critical 20 Routes of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) research based on an article published by The Asian Conference on Literature, Librarianship & Archival Science 2016, which drew results from a total of 1038 journal articles published between 1989 and 2014 using Web of Science (ISI; WOS) database.

His articles were also recognized as the Top 25 Most-Hottest Articles at Science Direct by Expert Systems with Applications in 2014 and 2015 (Elsevier, ISI; SCIE), Telematics & Informatics (Elsevier, ISI; SSCI) from 2014 to 2015 and Decision Support Systems (Elsevier, ISI; SCI) in 2012 and 2015. Dr Ooi’s research excellence has received numerous recognitions by various researchers. In mobile commerce and its applications, he has been acknowledged as the World’s Most Productive Author by Publication Counts and the World’s Second Most Influential Author (based on H-index) from 2000 to 2015 in Thomson ISI-Web of Science, as well as Malaysia’s Top Contributing Author based on article published by Telematics & Informatics (Elsevier, ISI; SSCI). Moreover, based upon another article published by The Bottom Line Vol. 31, Issue ¾. pp. 208-323 (Emerald, Scopus, ESCI), Dr Ooi is one of the Most Published Authors and a few who has imparted significant knowledge and information sharing in the field of mobile commerce applications between 2008 and 2017. A recent article published by the Industrial Management & Data Systems (Emerald, ISI; SCIE) in 2019 rated him as one of the “World’s Most Productive and Influential authors” in that journal over the past 25 years (1994-2019). He has also been acknowledged as the Most Influential (Based on H-index) as well as the Top 2nd Most Prolific (number of publication counts) and Top 2nd Highly Cited (total citation received) Malaysian-based author in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for Web of Science from 2006-2015 in an article published by the International Journal of Innovation and Learning (Inderscience, Scopus) in 2018.  In Malaysia, he was ranked as the Top 2nd Most Productive (based on number of publication counts) and Top 3 Most Cited (based on total citation received) Malaysian-based researcher in the field of Social Sciences in Web of Science (SSCI) from 2001-2014, in a report published by the Malaysian Science and Technology Centre (MASTIC), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). He was also ranked as the World’s Top Prolific (based on number of publication counts) and Most Influential (Based on H-index) as well as the Top 2nd Highly Cited (total citation received) author in TQM research in web of science from 2006-2015 based on an article published by the International Journal of Services, Economics and Management (Inderscience, Scopus). He was acknowledged as the Top 12 leading authors in the world under the discipline of innovation research, between 2009 and 2013, by a working paper published by University of Chile in 2015. In Computer Science, he placed in the Top 23 Most Productive Malaysian Computer Science Researchers in Web of Science from 2000 to 2010, in an article published by the Malaysia Journal of Library & Information Science (ISI; SCI) in 2011.

Dr Ooi was invited as an Editorial panel member to give talks at Academic Conferences in Kasetsart University, Thailand (2009; 2010; 2013); University of Oulu, Finland (2011); Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Korea (2014); University of Timisoara, Bari, Italy (2015) and Mahidol University, Thailand (2016). He was also an invited International Advisory Committee member for the Supply Chain Management and Information Systems (SCMIS 2010) conference organised by Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  He was invited as a Speaker at the Nottingham University Business School, China in 2017. Adding to his outstanding list of accolades and achievements, Dr Ooi serves as a Board member of the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia as well as the Chairman of the Academic Bureau Committee of the Co-operative. He was a Visiting Professor to the Department of Industrial Engineering at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. He was also the Singapore Internet Research Centre (SiRC) Associate with Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He was the Chief External Assessor for High Impact Research Grant (HIR) in the category of Social Sciences by University of Malaya in 2015, the External Assessor for NUBS China Research Grant Proposals at the Nottingham University Business School, China in 2013-2014, the External Reviewer for Tenure and Promotion at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2016 and the Chief Judge for Private Education Excellence Award (2018) event organized by Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia.

Dr Ooi has received various national and international grants, such as the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education; The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)’s Centre of Excellence Southeast Asia Research Grant for Malaysian SMEs; and The Sumitomo Foundation Grant for Japan-Related Research Project in 2009 and 2012. He was the project advisor for the government project signed between Kasetsart University, Thailand and State Railway of Thailand in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport, Thailand. This project supports the Royal Thai Government’s investment initiatives on the State Railway of Thailand.

Dr Ooi received his Engineering Doctorate (DEng) in Engineering Business Management from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Statistics from University of Malaya (UM), MBA from University of Southern Queensland (Australia), Postgraduate Award from University of Warwick (UK) and Bachelor of Information Technology (Distinction) from University of Southern Queensland (Australia). He is also a Fellow Member of the Royal Statistical Society, UK.
