Responsibilities

The Chief Librarian bears responsibility for preparing budgets, managing resources, meeting budget targets and ensuring that services are provided in an efficient and effective manner

 

Main Duties:

  • Responsibility for providing high quality services to support research, teaching and learning needs of the UCSI University faculty and students.
  • Manage library functions and perform ongoing maintenance and development for the integrated library automated system.
  • Evaluates, purchases, installs, and maintains library hardware and software and all related items. 
  • Coordinates technical and circulation operations with other library services and functions. 
  • Assists in preparing the annual budget, particularly as it relates to technical services and needs. 
  • Oversee system activity such as database backup, notice generation and report generation. 
  • Provide effective access to library collections and resources by develop and maintain collections management policies and procedures. 
  • Recommend and implement new and innovative technologies, service models and practices to improve services for customer focused and effective and efficient outcomes in collaboration with others across the Library and beyond.
  • Compiles related statistics monthly/prepare Library Reports as needed.
  • Plans, organizes and implements special projects as needed. Keep abreast of technical and other developments and trends in the library field.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Responds to patron questions and situations in accordance with library policy and in a manner to enhance the reputation of the library as a centre of teaching and learning. 
  • Assist with MQA Visit, Library Orientation Program and Information Literacy Class.
  • Other duties reasonable to assist in the smooth operation of the library.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess at least a Master in Library Science / Information Management or any other related discipline. 
  • High level of interpersonal skills in building and managing networks and relationship, internally and externally. 
  • Self-motivated, target oriented and independent with high degree of commitment to meet deadlines and objectives. 
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of relevant subject disciplines including advanced skills in resource discovery and the ability to train students in the use of online databases. 
  • Capable of working constructively, creatively and energetically, both independently and in a  collaborative, college environment.
