Forest Education Teacher (Part Time)

Responsibilities
Curriculum Development
- Develop and adapt educational curricula that align with academic standards and objectives, integrating concepts of ecology, sustainability, biodiversity, and conservation.
- Design lessons that utilize the forest environment as a natural classroom, promoting hands-on learning experiences.
Teaching and Facilitation
- Lead and facilitate educational activities, field trips, and workshops for students of varying age groups and backgrounds.
- Conduct engaging outdoor sessions in accordance with the forest educational philosophy
- Document all lesson plans, activities, and learning outcomes to maintain a comprehensive record of educational sessions.
Student and Family Engagement
- Inspire curiosity and appreciation for nature through interactive and inquiry-based learning approaches.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages exploration, critical thinking, and a sense of stewardship towards the environment
- Communicate student learning progress via verbal, written communication, photo, or video recordings to involve families in the educational journey and showcase student achievements in forest education.
Safety and Supervision
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students during outdoor activities, adhering to established safety protocols and procedures.
- Provide guidance on outdoor ethics, responsible behavior in natural settings, and risk management strategies.
Evaluation and Assessment
- Assess student learning through observation, evaluation of projects, and feedback mechanisms.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, making adjustments as necessary to meet learning objectives and student needs.
Collaboration and Outreach
- Collaborate with school administrators and support staff to ensure efficient and effective operation of the educational program, including cleanliness facilities maintenance, transportation, and food services.
- Support marketing initiatives at open day preview days or workshops by providing assistance in event planning, logistics coordination, and content development to showcase the centre’s programmes' strengths and attract prospective families.
- Foster partnerships with local communities, environmental organizations, and stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities and community involvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Forestry, or a related field.
- Teaching certification and experience in formal or informal education settings, particularly in outdoor or environmental education.
- Strong knowledge of ecology, natural history, conservation principles, and environmental issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire students of all ages.
- First aid certification and experience in wilderness safety and risk management
- Passion for environmental stewardship and conservation.
- Adaptability and flexibility in outdoor and classroom settings.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
