Student Development Counselling

Student Development & Counselling Department (SDCD)

Stepping into a new stage of life, university days, could be trilling but at the same time challenging. You might face some difficulties or crises that are not easily resolved on your own, but are too complicated to be shared with family members, friends or lecturers.

Here is a newsflash: You don’t need to face these crises alone. The trained counselors at the Student Development and Counselling Unit (SDCU) in UCSI University Terengganu Campus are more than glad to support you, listen to you, and help you deal with your concerns.

There are myths that counselling is meant for people who are insane or weak.

The fact is, counselling is a professional relationship, focusing on enhancing the psychological well-being of a client, so that he or she could be empowered to reach their full potential.

During the sessions, courage is highly needed to deal with sensitive feelings and painful experiences. Besides being a way to take control in your life, counselling could be a channel for you to develop yourself through self-understanding and acquisition of new skills.

There are various types of counselling, including academic counselling, career counselling, group counselling and e-counselling provided in UCSI University Terengganu Campus.

Counselling sessions are conducted in a confidential manner. Information is not disclosed or released to anyone without your prior written permission. The only exceptions are:

  • Failure to disclose the information would place you and/or another person’s safety at risk or another person’s property at risk it is subpoenaed by law.

In any of the two situations listed above, your counsellor will inform you what he/she intends to do.

To excel in both the university and workplace, academic knowledge alone is not sufficient. Moreover, challenges and obstacles in life; be it personality-wise, academic, emotional or mental, might leave students unsure of what actions to take.

To assist students to develop the necessary life skills in order to enhance the individual(s) personal wellness, the Student Development and Counselling Unit (SDCU)offers the Student Development Programmes designed to promote personal, character, intellectual, social, emotional and cultural developments outside the classroom.
