FACULTY MEMBERS RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONALLY FOR RESEARCH AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

UCSI Graduate Business School features some of the foremost scholars in several research areas. The Dean, Distinguished Professor Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon has shown world-class research excellence in specialized areas of mobile technology, knowledge management, and quality management throughout his career. He was acknowledged as one of the ‘Top 10 World Authors and High Impact Researchers’ (ranked #6) in the areas of ‘Technology Acceptance Model; Mobile Payment; UTAUT’ (2015-2020) by Elsevier’s Scopus and SciVal. In 2022, he has also been acknowledged as one of the ‘World’s Top 20 Authors’ (ranked #14) in the area of mobile payment by the journal article Internet Research (Emerald, SSCI) (Leong et al., 2022). As one of the pioneering researchers in his field, Professor Ooi was acknowledged as the ‘World’s Most Productive Author’ and the ‘World’s Second Most Influential Author’, as well as ‘Malaysia’s Top Contributing Author’ in the area of “Mobile Commerce and its Applications” in the period of 2000 to 2015, based on the Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) database, (Hew, 2017). Additionally, Professor Ooi was ranked ‘1st among the Top 10 Core Authors in the World’ in the field of ‘Social Commerce’ research from 2003 to 2018 in Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) (Li et al., 2018).

Professor Ooi’s research excellence goes beyond mobile technology. He has demonstrated significant and broad influence in the areas of knowledge management and total quality management. He was recognized as one of the ‘World’s Top 20 Most Prolific authors’ (ranked #14) in Knowledge Management from 1990 to 2019 (Shashi et al., 2022) as well as the ‘World’s Top 50 Most Productive and Influential authors’ (ranked #42) in the same research discipline of ‘Knowledge Management’ from 1961 to 2015 (Magaly Gaviria-Marin et al., 2019). Professor Ooi was recognized as the ‘World’s Top Prolific and Most Influential,’ as well as the ‘Top 2nd Highly Cited author’ in ‘Total Quality Management (TQM)’ research in Web of Science from 2006 to 2015 (Lee and Hew, 2017), and the ‘World’s Top 3 Most Productive Author’ in TQM from 1990 to 2019 based on the SCI-EXPANDED and SSCI database (Ho et al., 2022).

Another prominent faculty member, Professor Garry Tan Wei Han, has been recognized internationally for his notable research achievement in the field of mobile technology. Professor Garry has been listed as one of the World’s “10 Most Productive and Influential Authors in Mobile Commerce and Applications” in Clarivate Analytics’ (WOS) database between 2000-2015 (Hew, 2017). He was acknowledged as one of the “World’s Top 10 Core Authors” in Social Commerce in 2018 (Li et al., 2018) and “World’s 10 Most Productive Authors” in Mobile Commerce (Purnomo et al., 2021). The multiple remarkable recognitions made to Professor Garry are a true testament to his outstanding contribution and dedication to the field.

FACULTY MEMBERS RECEIVE NATIONAL AWARDS FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Faculty members from UCSI Graduate Business School have received national awards for their outstanding commitment and contribution to the academic community and beyond. Distinguished Professor Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon received the National Outstanding Researcher Award and Malaysia’s Distinguished Researcher Award from the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Moreover, Professor Ooi was Malaysia’s Research Star Award (MRSA) recipient of the year 2018, presented by both Malaysia’s Ministry of Education and Clarivate Analytics.

With remarkable advancements made to mobile commerce research, Professor Dr Garry Tan Wei Han bagged the National Outstanding Researcher Award (Mobile Commerce) in the Private Education Excellence Awards 2018. His outstanding article review work has earned him the National Outstanding Reviewer Award (Mobile Commerce) in the Private Education Excellence Awards 2019.

By creating significant impacts on others’ lives as an educator beyond everyday teaching, Associate Professor Dr Cham Tat Huei’s exceptional educational contributions have awarded him the National Outstanding Young Educator Award 2022 from the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia.

Distinguished Professor Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon |  Dean of UCSI’s Graduate Business School

Distinguished Professor Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon has earned the distinction of being named the World's Most Productive Author in the Total Quality Management (TQM) - Human Resource Management (HRM) domain.

He is ranked #1 Top in the world and has been recognised in an article published by "The TQM Journal" (Emerald, Scopus) titled "Bridging the gap between TQM and HRM: mapping knowledge and identifying areas for future research," authored by Flamini, G., Pareschi, L., & Martinez, M. (2023).

Based on a bibliometric analysis of 132 articles published in the TQM-HRM field from 1991 to 2021, using the Scopus database, the ranking identified him as the top author worldwide. With 14 publications in this area, he has amassed a staggering 1,501 citations. His research has had a significant impact on the ongoing discussion around the theoretical development linking performance appraisal and Total Quality Management performance.
