UCSI bags fourth place in general knowledge competition

KUALA LUMPUR: A team of eight UCSI University students – from psychology, and petroleum and chemical engineering disciplines – recently won fourth place and RM400 at the General Knowledge Competition, which was held at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

The competition saw the participation of 60 students from various universities across the country including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, among others.

Notably, the competition aimed to foster friendships among Yemeni students from different universities, test their general knowledge and provide a platform for them to meet with key officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen.

During the competition, the participants – segregated into groups – were required to answer questions that tested their knowledge in various areas like history, poetry, geography and sports.

According to Saif Mansoor Saif, a petroleum engineering student at UCSI, the tests were “challenging my historical knowledge on specific people and their lives was put to the test.”

“But through this event, I learned the importance of knowledge and how it measures our understanding of life,” he says.

“Those who are knowledgeable are usually decision makers who learn from people’s life stories and past events. Excelling academically doesn’t make you a knowledgeable person.”

The event was graced by Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Malaysia His Excellency Abdulla Mohamed Ali Al-Montser and other prominent embassy members.
