Our Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has just wrapped up its annual World Pharmacists Day and Formulation Scientists Celebration! In conjunction with this special event, we proudly honoured our outstanding students with Book Prize Awards for their exceptional achievements. A huge thank you to everyone who made this celebration memorable and to our amazing students for their dedication and hard work. Here's to continuing excellence and innovation in the world of pharmaceuticals!
On 25 August 2024, UCSI University's Traditional Martial Arts for All (TMA4ALL) Malaysia presented "Unity in Motion", an event that celebrated the power of martial arts to bring people together and promote inclusivity.
The event featured a sharing session by Tun Nori Abdullah, daughter of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who shared her personal experiences as a mother of a child with special needs and how martial arts has played a transformative role in their journey.
In collaboration with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and IDEAS Autism, TMA4ALL curated a range of interactive activities designed specifically for gifted children, including colouring, puzzle sessions and more.
The afternoon was filled with thrilling martial arts demonstrations by local and international experts from Malaysia, Germany, Croatia, Spain and Ireland, showcasing the disciplines of silat, taekwondo, karate and nihon taijitsu. UCSI University's own students from the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences also took to the stage to demonstrate the ancient arts of wushu and tai chi.
Furthermore, martial arts training sessions were held, allowing attendees to try their hand at various martial arts disciplines. A special section was also dedicated to gifted children, where they could learn karate in a safe and tailored environment.
UCSI Group's HR division recently launched our first-ever Mentor-Mentee Programme, featuring a great lineup of industry experts sharing their insights on leadership
- Anita Lawrence, Exceed Excellence Sdn Bhd founder, spoke on transformative leadership
- Ng Eng Hooi, head of Coaching International Culture, shared strategies for sustainable coaching
- Arulkumar Singaraveloo, Malaysia HR Forum founder, shared his personal experience as a mentor and mentee
- Christoffer Erichsen, Human Inc founding partner and CEO, spoke on how to become an innovative organisation
The event also featured an insightful forum with distinguished leaders:

They shared their leadership styles and offered invaluable advice to the attendees.
UCSI University's Traditional Martial Arts For All (TMA4ALL) Malaysia 2024 kicked off its opening ceremony at Le Quadri Kuala Lumpur, celebrating and promoting the rich heritage of traditional martial arts in Malaysia and beyond.
The event attracted over 360 attendees, including esteemed martial arts experts from Malaysia and countries such as Ireland, Croatia, Germany, Spain and Mexico. TMA4ALL’s 10-day programme offers a variety of workshops, demonstrations and training sessions focused on traditional martial arts disciplines including silat, wushu, taekwondo, nihon taijitsu, tai chi and karate.
The programme will feature prominent silat practitioners like Pendita Mahaguru Prof Azlan Jumat bin Abdul Ghanie and Mahaguru Mohamed Faid bin Musa, who will lead silat training and demonstrations. Additionally, it will include sharing sessions and a panel discussion to explore contemporary trends, techniques and the future of martial arts.
The opening ceremony also highlighted philanthropy, raising RM13,500 for The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and Yayasan Sunbeams Home.
On 10 August 2024, UCSI's English Language Student Association hosted the "Drama On The Spot" event. It combined a workshop with a competition and attracted over 45 participants from 10 schools across the Klang Valley.
The workshop was led by Theatresauce, a prominent theatre collective based in Kuala Lumpur. Participants experienced a dynamic learning environment, where they were taught to use their bodies and voices to express a range of emotions and portray different types of characters.
Following the workshop, a competition was held, judged by a panel of 10 experienced judges. The students worked in groups of three to five to develop a 10-minute performance piece. These performances were inspired by seven images created during the workshop and required the inclusion of at least 8 out of 12 specified components.
The competition concluded with Stella Maris International School Damansara taking first place. Future Academy secured second place, while SMK Taman Connaught came in third. Special awards were given to Suah Jake Wee from Future Academy, who was named Best Actor, and Wong Ji Lum from Stella Maris International School Damansara, who was awarded Best Actress.
On 10 August 2024, UCSI University, in partnership with UCSI Hospital, organised a comprehensive six-hour radiology masterclass at Le Quadri Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together renowned radiologists and medical professionals to share their expertise and insights. The University is committed to continuous medical education and ensuring healthcare professionals remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in radiology.
The masterclass commenced with a session led by Prof Dr Wilfred Peh from the National University of Singapore, who spoke on "Echo Viva: Observing Radiologist Trainees Report Abnormalities from Various Imaging Modalities." This was followed by a presentation from Dr Rohazly Bt Ismail from Women and Children's Hospital Tunku Azizah Hospital, discussing paediatric radiology at a glance.
Additionally, Datin Dr Zuhanis Bt Abd Hamid from the National Cancer Institute presented valuable insights into the application of radiology in oncology. The final session was delivered by Dr Siti Hajar Bt Omar from Malacca General Hospital as she addressed the challenges faced in skeletal trauma imaging.
On 8 August 2024, we celebrated the launch of UCSI Online Radio. Managed by our students from the Mass Communication Association, this new platform is about giving them a voice. Above all, the University wants to provide them with hands-on experience in broadcasting, so they can hit the ground running after graduation.
A special 30-minute podcast session was also held with our adjunct professor, Khairy Jamaluddin and our pro-chancellor, YAM Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz. Learning about podcasting, strategies and etcetera was enlightening and insightful.
On 8 August 2024, the University held its first Prominent Professorial Lecture series in collaboration with Distinguished Prof Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon.
Over 60 lecturers and participants gathered for his lecture on "Pathways to Academic Success: Boosting Your H-index and Citation Count". Prof Ooi shared strategies for increasing H-index and citation counts, including the use of social media to enhance academic visibility and citation rates.
The esteemed professor concluded by encouraging postgraduate students to boldly seek collaborations with highly cited researchers. His insights exemplify how strategic effort and perseverance can drive academic success.
On 3 and 4 August 2024, UCSI Group hosted its first international open house event in Medan, Indonesia and around 300 visitors turned up! With over 2,000 Indonesian UCSI alumni, Indonesia is one of the largest international student communities at UCSI University.
We were thrilled to meet prospective students and reconnect with our alumni, strengthening the bonds between our university and the Indonesian community. Education exhibitions and healthcare services from UCSI University, UCSI College, UCSI Hospital and UCSI International School were on full display.
During the event, we signed five new memoranda of understanding for research collaboration with esteemed institutions, including Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Prima Indonesia, Universitas Pancabudi, Universitas Medan Area and Universitas Battuta.
We were honoured to be joined by distinguished guests, including YBrs Encik Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, Consul General of Malaysia in Medan; YBhg Dr Hasnul Faizal Husin Amri, Director of Education Malaysia Indonesia; and Dr Suhendri, representative from the Education Office of North Sumatra.
On 3 and 4 August 2024, the University held its 22nd Annual Public Health Campaign in Bentong. This year’s focus was on raising awareness about kidney diseases and breast cancer. We were honoured to provide free health tests and services to over 1,000 individuals.
Our dedicated pharmacy students, in collaboration with the Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Bentong and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia, conducted waist circumference measurements, blood pressure tests, body fat tests, cholesterol and glucose tests, and clinical breast examinations.
The event also featured informative exhibitions, Q&A sessions and demonstrations on drug compounding. These activities aimed to empower our community with essential health knowledge and highlight the importance of preventive care.
