Close to 50 Companies at UCSI University's Career Carnival

Kuala Lumpur, 26 June, 2012 - Maintaining high employability for its students is one of the goals of UCSI University. With this in mind, the University's Student Affairs Office recently organised one of the largest Career Carnivals on campus to introduce students to 48 reputable companies, including Nestle (M) Sdn. Bhd., Hewlett Packard Sdn. Bhd., DHL Supply Chain (M) Sdn. Bhd., Sony EMCS (M) Sdn. Bhd., BP Healthcare Group, Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (Pam), Tan Chong Group as well as Malaysian Airlines System. The event drew almost 2,000 students who visited the various booths, attended talks given by industry professionals and took personality assessments to discover which careers they are more suited to.

More than 200 jobs were on offer during the carnival, with some interviews conducted on site. This is among some of the initiatives taken by the University's Student Affairs Office annually, to give students an opportunity to meet with professionals from the relevant industries and to experience a real interview process conducted by personnel from high-profile companies.

The Career Carnival is also an avenue for UCSI University students who will be pursuing their Co-Operative Industry Placement (Co-Op) programme, to interview for internships with companies that offer job openings. The Co-Op programme enables students to undergo an internship course for at least 2 months every study year, beginning from their first year of studies. About 500 resumes were submitted on the day of the event.

According to Mr Sylvester Lim, UCSI University's Vice President of Student Affairs and Alumni, there are many plans in the future to expand the University's network to include more companies in the Co-Operative Industry Placement Programme. "Currently, we have more than 1000 industry partners, and the Career Carnival is just one of the annual events we have lined-up to introduce students to the industry and vice-versa."

He added that they are also looking into tapping into multinational companies to provide the students with better options and to prepare them to be internationally and globally recognised.

Currently, plans are underway to organise a bigger Career Carnival next year, with participation by more multinational corporations (MNCs).

On top of giving them this immeasurable opportunity, the students were also rewarded via a Lucky Draw session where they stood a chance to win a new iPad, Camera, and GPS, sponsored by the events Grand Prize Sponsors, namely, Hotlink, Steven Lim & Associates, and One Energize Station and other prizes sponsored by Cerebos, MPH Bookstores, Justlife, Worthy Media Sdn. Bhd., Lulu Nyonya and Nestle (M) Sdn. Bhd.
