DIGI FIESTA AT UCSI

Kuala Lumpur, 7 July 2008 - Digi treated UCSI Students and Staff to a fun-filled Digi fiesta week right on campus. It featured fun games such as inflatable rock climbing, pocket bike challenge, gladiator challenge, and paint ball battle. It also included a Digi-hour, featuring pop singers Dina from Malaysian idol and Azizi, Dave and Asyraf from Digi Celebriteens. The five-day event was hosted by celebrity actor and host, Baki Zainal and Stuart. Deputy Vice Chancellor Assoc. Professor Chin Peng Kit and Digi’s General Manager of Sales Mr. Chan Nam Kiong were there to officiate the event on its first day.

Starting at 11 a.m. daily, and drawing large crowds by lunch time, the Digi Fiesta had a carnival-like atmosphere with mini games at each booth and small prizes to take home upon winning. The simple but entertaining games drew a lot of students after classes. Carnival favourites such as ‘knocking-down-cans’, ‘ring-tossing’, and ‘duck-fishing’ were some of the games featured in the fiesta. There were also other mini games including a video football game. Break dancing team, “Digi Boys” performed regularly and fascinated the crowd throughout the week. Prominent among the crowd were UCSI students’ Digi Yellow Army, who were there to warm-up the crowd, and also help in selling Digi products. The fiesta is a collaboration and a promotional platform between Digi and students for their new campaign, D’Campus, which entitles students to special privileges from Digi upon signing up for the plan. By being part of the Digi team, the students are not only earning some extra pocket money, and extra credit time for their hand phones, but they also become leadership role models for their peers. The Digi inculcates the Yellow Army with entrepreneurial spirit., which is a special UCSI value-added feature and asset preparing students for the working world.

Digi is one of the employers under the Co-Operative Education (Co-Op) or Industrial Training Programme at UCSI. The programme is implemented to formally integrate classroom learning with employment training in co-operative employer organizations. Digi is one of the participants in UCSI’s ‘Enterprise and Entreprenuership Zone Programme’ (2EZ) which is a physical space allocated on campus for Employers registered with UCSI’s Co-Op programme to provide member students avenues to gather entrepreneurial skills including cooperative education, co-curricular activities and class projects. The inculcation of entrepreneurial skills to students is high in UCSI’s agenda. The 2EZ will spur greater enterprise and entrepreneurial skills among students, and will be one of the catalysts for student-led activities on campus.
