Dr. Hiew Lee Chea is the lecturer of Hospitality and Tourism Economics for Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UCSI University, Sarawak Campus. She holds a Ph.D. from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) specializing in financial economics in 2015.
Before pursuing her tertiary education at Unimas, she worked as part-time server, barista and cashier at Ramada Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka Hotel. To extend her experiences in hospitality industry, she decided to work at Novus Restaurant, Bar, Cafe, Courtyard which in housed in the historic National Museum of Singapore. She has wide experiences in hospitality industry.
During her PhD study in UNIMAS, she involved as a part-time tutor for several subjects which include Econometrics, Statistics for Economics and Business, and Research Methodology for Business and Economics. In addition, she was also appointed as research assistant for few research grants (FRGS) and consultancy projects at both state and national levels. She has very good analytical skills and is capable of operating many statistical software such as EViews, Stata, Microfit and SPSS.
She was a part-time lecturer at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC), Kuala Lumpur before joining UCSI University. She taught introductory and upper level courses in Mathematical Economics, Microeconomics, Economic Statistics, International Economics and Econometrics.
Dr. Hiew has persistently displayed excellent work ethic and enthusiasm towards success. She has shown great work performance as a tutor/lecturer in teaching and learning for the undergraduate students particularly on quantitative economics courses. Furthermore, her enormous interest in research also excels with publication in some international journals. Given her passion in research, she has won silver medals in UNIMAS R&D Expo 2010 and 2013; gold medal in UNIMAS R&D Expo 2012; and 3rd Prize Winner under category of business and economics at “The 5th International Conference on Postgraduate Education (ICPE-5) 2012”.
