Eye-Opening Experience at The Student Leadership Summit Event

Batu Caves: This camp was a joint event between UCSI University's campuses, and was held from Sept 21 - 23, 2012 at the Nur Laman Bestari campsite. 80 students in total joined this camp; while most students hailed from the Kuala Lumpur campus, there were nine student participants from the Terengganu campus, namely,  Jesvin, Hafizul, Syarafana, Nida, Syazwani, Shazlina, Shafira, Natasya and Jo Ann.

Themed "Student Leardership Summit in 3D (Discover, Define, Deliver)", the camp aimed to train the students to be future leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge in their respective field, in addition to exposing them to real-life case studies. With that, the participants would be fundamentally equipped to tackle each problem as a responsible leader. Apart from that, the camp also emphasised on moral values such as trust, friendship and teamwork, to name a few.

Notably, the camp was a great opportunity for students from the Terengganu campus to mingle with other student communities and build lasting relationships with them. Overall, the leadership camp was the ideal platform for us to forge new friendships, gain new experience and was excellent preparation to train us as future leaders. We also learned that teamwork and trust is very important in any society, club or organisation.

The campsite was really furnished with awesome facilities and we observed – during our three day stay there – that there was a steady flow of people setting up camp at the site. It wasn't long before the camp bustled with much laughter and excitement, despite our tight schedule. Our experience with the food and dorm were also unforgettable.

Although the camp was an event organised by the new Student Council members, they did a good job planning this camp as it was apparent from the students' happy expressions that their efforts had paid off. The games were great fun, but most of us could not really handle the gross food-eating game, although we still pulled through with the help of our teammates. Most participants did their part in this game and it was eye-boggling to see so many "strong" individuals who could stomach those horrible concoctions.

Should there be more opportunities like this, we would certainly be keen to participate. Now, we have more friends, new knowledge, new experiences and a new gateway to more opportunities. We look forward to future outings and events organised by the University.
