7 AugKAJANG PRISON BOY STORY
Kuala Lumpur, 07 August 2003 - Compassionate justice is probably the best way to describe how some members of the public would like to see the case of the 13-year-old boy who murdered his tuition teacher’s daughter end.
Response to the signature campaign was encouraging judging from the number of students and staff of Sedaya International College who took the trouble to pen their words of encouragement on a banner specially designed for the signature campaign.
The campaign, initiated by the ChristianFellowship@Sedaya, was in response to an article in The Star Metro (August 4) featuring Shelter Home’s chairman, James Nayagam appealing to the public to write letters of encouragement to the boy.
Sedaya Christian Fellowship’s President, Peter Ng said: “We are glad to be able to carry out this project with the help of the management of the College. This is a project involving every caring Sedayan,” he said.
“We understand that the boy needs encouragement, and although justice is being meted, we must give him a future and a hope to live for.”
Ng, who is currently a Second Year Electrical & Electronics Engineering student, said at 13 years old, he was free to do whatever he wanted besides having to do his assignments. “However, this 13-year-old boy will be in prison. It is scary. This is a tragedy we all hope that he will not have to go through.”
Receiving the banner from Ng on behalf of Shelter Home was its Senior Administration Officer, Anderson Selvasegaram, who represented Nayagam, who had to attend court with the boy.
Samples of quotes on the banner:
“Everything can start anew; just give yourself a chance. Tomorrow will be better; be strong”
“Hope never fails; Love never fails. God loves you. God bless and keep you safe while you go through this difficult time.”
“Don’t lose hope; there is a God who loves and cares for you.”
“In every despair, there is hope. In every failure there is success. In every wrongdoing, there is forgiveness. If man fails to forgive you, remember that God has already forgiven you.”
“Learn to overcome your fears. You will become a better person in the long run. There is hope for everyone.”
