Biography

Lim Hoong Bee earned her degree in 2004 from the renowned Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Scoring. Upon completion, she moved to Los Angeles, California and took up practical training as a composer’s assistant to Mr. Lawrence Shragge.

Hoong Bee assisted on several productions under the tutelage and guidance of Mr. Shragge, namely: ‘Son of the Dragon’, a TV Mini Series featuring David Carradine; ‘Road to Forgiveness’, featuring Dean Cain; ‘Merlin’s Apprentice’, featuring Sam Neill and Miranda Richardson; and productions by the Hallmark Entertainment, ESPN Original Entertainment and USA channels.

During her stay in the United States, Hoong Bee also composed scores for short films and commercials. Her composition for ‘Have You Ever Thought About It’ won The Spirit of Moondance award in the 2005 Moondance Film Festival in LA, California.

In 2006, Hoong Bee wrote the score for the feature film ‘Erased’, directed by Mike Halper of Ascentia Films. She also scored 2 other shorts: ‘Deceived’ and ‘SORRY’, with Mike Halper being the director of photography. ‘SORRY’ which was directed by Joe Dietl, won third place in the DVXuser.com in the 2007 SpyFest.

Hoong Bee began her teaching career at UCSI University as a Composition Adjunct Lecturer in 2009 and became a full-time staff at UCSI University’s Institute of Music in 2012. She completed her graduate degree in Master of Music Technology from the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2016. She is now the area coordinators for Composition and Music Technology at the Institute of Music, UCSI

Hoong Bee is also an active participant at the “All About Love Community Service”. She wrote a song for the community service titled 'All About Love' and was featured in the 2016 benefit recital for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association. In 2017, Hoong Bee once again joined effort with the All About Love Community Service members for her second benefit recital in raising funds for the Make-A-Wish, Malaysia with two new compositions- 'Make A Wish' and 'Love For The Earth'. The song, ‘Make A Wish’ has recently been made the official corporate song for the said non- profit organisation.
