Outstanding Academic Leader Of The Year Award

UCSI’s Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment Assistant Professor Dr M.K.A. Ahamed Khan recently won the Outstanding Academic Leader Of The Year Award by GISR Foundation and The American College of Dubai. The award was presented at the International Business and Academic Excellence (IBAE) Awards 2019.

“This award is about overcoming myself with hard work and determination. Overcoming my body, my limitations, and my fears. It also means surpassing myself and turning my dreams into a reality. I am extremely happy with my results,” he said.

The IBAE Awards provides a common platform to share individual excellence in Business and Academic careers with the world and cascade individual performance. Nominations were received from global participants and reviewed by the expert jury panel of the IBAE Awards 2019.

More than 600 nominations across the globe were received which were then short listed to 50. Finally, recommendations were made to the top level executive committee members for final award approval.

Speaking about how this award contributes to his profession, Dr Khan had this to say:

“Getting this award is a fantastic way to raise my profile at work, highlight my expertise, and boost my resume with prestigious accomplishments. It not only boosts my self -esteem but also allows me to think critically about my career. Being recognised by a professional association is one way to stand out from the crowd. Awards such as this raise my profile in the academic world and speaks volumes about my experience and expertise.”

No doubt, UCSI played a pivotal role in him getting the award. Dr Khan had UCSI to thank for his accomplishment particularly the Management, the Faculty head and fellow colleagues in showing their support and encouragement which, to him, is the back bone of his achievements. He also appreciated the support of family and friends who have become his driving force to succeed.

“My advice to my beloved students is to look in all four dimensions of life as you strive to educate yourself – physically, spiritually, intellectually, and socially. Spend time each day developing each of these four dimensions. Take responsibility for yourself. Life is short; don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today. Set high personal and academic standards for yourself, and live up to them,” he said.

Dr Khan is also the IEEE RAS Malaysia Chapter Vice Chairman and a IEEE UCSI Student Branch Counsellor. He is from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and his expertise includes Robotics and Controls as well as Power Electronics and Electronic Drives.
