On June 25, 2024, the ICAD Esports Club at UCSI University partnered with CRIT Esports to host ACS EDU Tour Season 3: ICAD Esports Club x Mobile Games. The event served as a sponsorship opportunity for the club while offering blossoming professional esports players in UCSI a chance to test their mettle against their peers.
The event featured a scream machine and a Pubg school-wide tournament. The winners of the tournament would further go on to compete against other schools in an interschool league, of which the final prize will be a whopping RM200,000. Students of the esports club were in attendance to help host the tournament, and club president Hong Sen Ron has expressed a positive impact on the club and hopes to host future tournaments within the school.
UCSI University and Billion Prima Sdn Bhd, the sole Cargo and Baggage Scanner Research and Development centre and manufacturer in Southeast Asia, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) valued at over RM200,000. The collaboration between UCSI University and Billion Prima encompasses three distinct engineering projects focusing on innovative technological advancements in imaging, communication, and radiation monitoring, which will help generate new knowledge within the industry.
On the morning of June 8th, 2024, around 35 UCSI University staff and students gathered at Klang Gates Dam for the Riverbank Expedition and Cleanup. Teaming up with Friends of Rivers Malaysia, the group worked diligently to clean the river and plant new trees.
Tuan Haji Mansor Abdul Ghani and Encik Mazlan from Friends of Rivers Malaysia shared valuable insights on the importance of the reservoir and the medicinal value of the plants being planted in the area. Additionally, Mr Lim from the Faculty of Applied Sciences provided important insights on water quality and other interesting facts.
On June 8, 2024, Youth Beyond Boundaries held its second iteration of the Future Leader's Empowerment Series (Fles) with the theme "LeadXelerate the Future". The event was by students from universities across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor such as Sunway and Monash.
Speeches were given by Distinguished Prof Dr Phang Siew Moi and Yang Amat Mulia, Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz. Furthermore, other speakers included world-changing leaders such as Mr Surendran Kandasamy, head of Energy Transitions (Hydrogen) Solutions in Petronas. Ultimately, the event was a huge success, with students gaining valuable insight and ready to take on their rightful place as future leaders.
UCSI University’s Institute of Music hosted an international piano competition, challenging young talents in classical piano music worldwide.
The Institute has set a new competition record this year with 145 contestants hailing from Armenia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The competition awarded winners with cash prizes and scholarships of up to 100%.
UCSI University formalised an MoU with Hainan University to foster academic and research staff exchanges, promote student mobility, and strengthen research collaboration. This partnership enables UCSI to participate in joint research within the League of Tropical Universities, an innovative organisation that brings together leading research institutes and universities from tropical and related regions across Asia, Africa, and South America to advance higher education and socio-economic development in tropical regions.
UCSI University was honoured to welcome a distinguished delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by the Honourable Maxsudov Jamol Tilloyevich, Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies. The visit, which took place on May 31st, 2024, aimed to foster collaboration and exchange insights on digitisation and digitalisation efforts between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
The event provided a platform for both parties to discuss and learn from each other in areas such as e-governance, data management, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. The visit by the Uzbekistan delegation to UCSI University marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two nations in the digital realm. This meeting is expected to pave the way for further collaboration, joint endeavours and shared progress in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Last evening, we rolled out the red carpet for a truly glamorous affair - the Long Service Award Gala Night! Guests arrived dressed to the nines, ready to celebrate. With more than 120 awards presented, we honoured those who have dedicated over a decade of service to this esteemed institution. The evening's highlight was recognising an incredible 36 years of loyal service by one remarkable staff member! The night was filled with a variety of performances and lucky draws. We would like to thank all our employees for their loyalty, hard work and enduring spirit! You are what makes UCSI what it is today. Here's to many more years of growth and success!
The first Malaysia Towerrunning University Championship at UCSI University saw tower running world champion Soh Wai Ching scaling 12 floors with a time of 1 minute and 4s. Easily besting the competition, the world’s number one tower runner won the Open Individual Men’s category. His presence at UCSI added star power to the Championship that attracted over 200 contestants – representing 19 nations – from 15 Malaysian higher education institutions. The competition also featured three other categories: Open Individual Women, University Men and University Women.
UCSI University had the honour of hosting Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan for an engaging podcast recording session of Keluar Sekejap. The discussion delved into the intricacies of the higher education system in public universities and the future of traditional arts and culture in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The podcast episode promises to be a must-listen for anyone interested in the intersection of higher education, arts, culture and technology.
