SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND LIBERAL ARTS (SSLA) ASSOCIATION HOSTS TALK SHOW

KUALA LUMPUR, Wednesday 3 August 2005 - Members of UCSI’s School of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (SSLA) Association were treated to a talk show, featuring two representatives from Kelly Services.

According to President of School of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, Christine Chua, the three-hour session given by the two human resource experts, Shayrul Anuar and Kelly Chan was enlightening.

“We were fortunate to have Kelly Services to give us an overview of the current job market, ideas on how to prepare a curriculum vitae, tips to an interview and insights into the frequently-asked-questions during an interview,” she said.

The talk kicked off with an overview of the current job market, where fresh graduates are unemployed although there are many job opportunities in the market.
Advices were given to students to take up jobs that may not necessarily apply what they have learnt in their majors. “For example, they can work at the call centers, or take up contract positions and temporary jobs,” said Shayrul. “Having a job is better than having none. Furthermore, experiences gained from all job attempts will be beneficial in the future.”
With the help of Kelly Services, the SSLA members were given short but detailed guidelines towards writing proper and better curriculum vitae.

Apart from that, they were also given tips on how to prepare and handle an interview, which is crucial in setting the first impression and securing the job. “Proper dressing, handshake, gestures and speech are also very important,” said Chan.
