Terrence Ling Hung Shu is a contemporary singer, drummer and choral conductor hailing from East Malaysia. Since 2003, he has competed in, and have won numerous singing competitions around Malaysia. Notable achievements include Champion of Teen Idols, Champion of Sarawak State Level Singing Competition, and 2nd place at National Level Sam Lee Singing Competition. He also participated in Sing China Season 1, Taiwan Superstar, and Taiwan Million Stars.
Terrence started his drums lesson in 2011 during his undergraduate studies in UCSI University and began his performing career in 2013. He has performed in numerous festivals including Publika Jazz Festival, Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival, Singapore International Jazz Festival, World Youth Jazz Festival, Borneo Jazz Festival, Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival, Tornado Music Festival, Musicsynthesis Festival, and JB Arts Festival. He also performed with numerous high profile musicians and around the world including John Dip Silas (MAS), Michael Veerapen (MAS), Scott Murphy (UK), Alex Woods (UK), Damian Erskine (USA), Patrick Terbrack (USA), Jasmine Chen (China), Hiroyuki Yagi (Japan), Amelia Ong (Indonesia), and 关喆 (China).
Terrence was exposed to choral music in 2011 during his undergraduate studies. Since then, he aims to develop in it and make it his future career. He sings with Dithyrambic Singers and has performed with Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of internationally renowned conductors: Marcello Rota (Tenor Andrea Bocelli Asia Tour), Arnie Roth (Distant World Final Fantasy), Benjamin Zander (Mahler 2), Fabio Mechetti (Opera-Carmen), Andreas Delf (Mozart Requiem), Naohisa Furusawa (Beethoven 9), and Roberto Abbado (Carmina Burana). Terrence also sang in the opera, "Draco and Maria" at the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Concert under the baton of Arnie Roth and with the presence of the composer, Nobuo Uetmasu. In July 2018, Terrence sang with the Indonesia Youth Choir which comprises of selected singers from Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Terrence teaches in the Institute of Music, UCSI University, specialising in contemporary voice, drums and choral. Terrence is currently conducting/directing the UCSI Junior Choir since 2016, and UCSI Singers since its formation in 2018. In 2017, Terrence conducted the UCSI Concert Choir and the choir won the Absolute Winner prize at the Pattaya Grand Prix Choral Festival, Thailand. Terrence is currently endorsed by Canopus Drums and he is also an artist of PH Music. Besides teaching and performing, Terrence also presents workshops and clinics, as well as adjudicating competitions around Malaysia.
