UCSI Free Market 2020 - Go Live!

The Free Market is similar to a regular flea market, where there is no buying and selling and no barter trade. It is unique in that visitors are welcome to take home any item on display for free, without any catch.

The UCSI Free Market event used to be named FreeMarketFOBIS in 2018 and 2019.  Since then, the Faculty has been restructured into the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) and ICSDI (Institute of computer Science and Digital Innovation). Hence, this year UCSI Free Market was a collaborative effort between FBM and ICSDI.

UCSI Free Market was held in support of UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

The FreeMarketUCSI concept was brought forward by Assistant Professor Ts Chit Su Mon and Assistant Professor Jeff Lai (Head of Programme, Actuarial Science and Applied Statistics). This is the third year that this event has been organised. FreeMarket allows anyone to provide items which are still in good condition to those who want them.

FreeMarket also encourages the contribution of skills and services like medical check-ups, legal or even financial advice. In 2018, the event was organised along the UCSI bridge while in 2019, it was held at the UCSI Student Centre in Block A.

This year due to pandemic, there was no physical event. Thus, this event was organised as a live sales event. Rachel Yang from FBM volunteered to be a promoter for one and a half hours with Dr Eva (Deputy Dean, FBM) and Dr Chaw (Head of Department, Management Studies) as moderators. This year we had premium items like a laptop, camera, bluetooth speaker, household items such as floor cleaners, dish washer, shampoo, boxes of masks, bottles of hand sanitiser and tooth paste which are practical for daily use.

Our motto: We give, we take, we share!
