UCSI REWARDS 662 OUTSTANDING ACHIEVERS


KUALA LUMPUR, 2 August 2007 - University College Sedaya International (UCSI) held its 3rd Awards Day to reward all its 662 top achievers at a grand ceremony, at its Cheras campus. Approximately RM 5 million scholarships and awards were offered to deserving students. 

Asked about his thoughts on the students achievements, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Abdul Rahman Arshad, Chancellor of UCSI said, “The student who receives this award must remember that the award is not just a reward, but a responsibility. The student who receives the award must continue to excel. The student has to be good today and good tomorrow.” 

This same call was echoed in the speech by UCSI President and Vice-Chancellor, Peter. T. S. Ng who urged UCSI students to see their awards as UCSI’s encouragement for them to continue to excel.

According to Mr. Au Yong Soon Kok, Asia Pacific & ASEAN Regional Manager for Edexcel, the sponsor for the Edexcel Top A-Level Student Award at UCSI, “UCSI has done a good job with this event and I believe the students who have received the awards today are encouraged by it.” 

At this event, the hall was filled with applause as parents of award recipient Nicholas Ong Tzong Huat received the award on his behalf. Ong who was hospitalized for 3 weeks prior to his passing, was a constant `A’ average student, and was on the School of Applied Sciences’ Dean’s List. His parents received his certificate from President and Vice Chancellor, Peter Ng. 

At this Awards Day 2007, the Inspirational Achievement Award was awarded to Nigerian student, David Enogho ThankGod. This award is given to students who despite them being physically challenged have shown courage and dedication in pursuing tertiary education. David who was strickened with polio at the age of six said, “I do not see my condition as a disability, rather it just makes me more determined to pursue my goals and contribute back to society and my country.” 

Aside from the recipients of various scholarships and awards as well as their parents, various dignitaries were invited to the event. Also present were, His Excellency, David Gachoki Njoka the Kenyan Ambassador, His Excellency, Hoshiar H. Dazayi the Iraqi Ambassador, His Excellency, Peter J. E. Anegbeh the Nigerian Ambassador and His Excellency, Dr. Pablo Sader the Uruguay Ambassador.
