Kuching, May, 2012 - UCSI University's Centre for Pre-University Studies (Centre for Pre-U) recently held their Annual Graduation and Awards Day at their Sarawak Campus to acknowledge the hard work of their students . Parents were invited to the ceremony following a ‘Parent Lecturer Interview' session to discuss about the students' progress in their studies.

The Chief Operating Officer of the Sarawak Campus, Madam Lu Huong Ying congratulated and encouraged the graduating students by saying, "Studying for a certificate is not enough, students should learn to pick up leadership and communication skills as well, through their journey of learning".

In line with this, graduates of the Centre proved to be more than capable by obtaining top awards in various categories. Adeline Ong Chek Kim, Loh Chen Lam and Yeo Jia Bin were awarded with the ‘Best Achievers Awards' for outstanding results with the highest average score in the recent trial exam. Apart from that, Adeline Ong Chek Kim was awarded with the ‘Best Improvement Award' as well.

Doreen Kho, one of the valedictorians expressed her appreciation towards the passionate and resourceful lecturers in her vote of thanks. "It has been a year since I enrolled in UCSI University's Foundation in Science programme, and I must say that it has definitely exceeded my expectations. Excellence is a hallmark of UCSI University, and this is reflected in every facet, from in-depth syllabuses and challenging schedules to students' events and mentorship programmes. What really sets UCSI University apart from other universities, though, is the friendliness of the staff, both academic and administrative. Indeed, being a UCSI University student is an amazing experience in itself, and one that everyone should have the opportunity to relish".

The overall graduation ceremony was managed by the UCSI University A-Level students with guidance from the staff. The Head of the Centre for Pre-U Studies of the Sarawak Campus, Madam Mukvinder Sandhu was pleased with the overall results and congratulated the A-Level students for the well-organized event that had showcased the capabilities beyond doing well academically. Through organizing and managing events, students are able to hone various skills including their communication skills and managing skills which are useful for them to pursue their studies both overseas and locally.

For more than 25 years, UCSI University has been challenging the idea of what an education should be and is seeking to redefine convention with its Praxis University approach – a pedagogy that blends both workplace and classroom in a creative fashion. In a nutshell, UCSI University brings the best of both worlds, the academic and industry expects, under one roof.

Housing the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management as well as the Centre for Pre-U, the UCSI University Sarawak Campus provides niche programmes to train its students in many areas of hospitality and tourism as well as developing their management skills and teamwork.

The Centre for Pre-U Studies has consistently remained the leading GCE A-Levels provider in Kuching and together with its foundation programmes serves as a pathway to degree programmes in UCSI University campuses in Malaysia and its education partners overseas.
