UCSI UNIVERSITY GLAMS UP FOR FASHION

Kuala Lumpur, 22nd October 2011 - UCSI University’s School of Design student, Bishrel Baymbajay, along with her team members had emerged as 1st runner up in the Fashion Designer category for the Tri Factor Glam Night during the grand finale that was held live in KL on 22nd October. Known as the first fashion concert in Malaysia, the Competition aimed to redefine the local fashion scene.

Bishrel, as the fashion designer of two teams, and the models and photographers, had competed against 8 other teams in three mini competitions where each category was judged separately by professionals of the respective components. Bishrel who had had no fashion designing competition experience, had won the prize of RM 3,000 as the 1st runner up of the Competition.

“I joined Tri-Factor Glam Night to strengthen myself and to broaden my knowledge. I hope to gain more experience that would open up new possibilities for me” she said.

As fashion designers, they are required to work long hours to meet deadlines to prepare for fashion shows. For the Competition, Bishrel had created various design pieces to fit the model for the mini competition section and emerged as the top 5 in the fashion designer category. “We had the confidence and the strength to strive to the best of our ability,” she further added.

Tri Factor Glam Night differs from any other fashion competition as it integrates three components of the fashion world: modelling, fashion designing and photography.

“We have seen several fashion design competitions like Project Runway, and modelling competitions and photography contests, but since none have actually combined all three fashion elements into a single competition, we decided to take up the challenge.” said Adrian Puan, the event organiser.

Competition judges included Asian supermodel Eleen Yong, catwalk trainer Amelia Tan, professional photographer Jacky Koh, President of the Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) Gillian Hung, and local fashion designer Michael Ong.
