UCSI UNIVERSITY PLEDGES RM369, 785 TOWARDS THE SUN-MAPCU SCHOLARSHIP FUND AWARDS


Kuala Lumpur, 9th August, 2011 - UCSI University, through the UCSI University Foundation honors its commitment towards CSR pledges yet another RM369, 785 towards The Sun-MAPCU Scholarship Fund Awards in its Silver Jubilee Year. YB Dr Hou Kok Chung, deputy minister of education in his opening speech praised UCSI University along with the 15 colleges and universities who are MAPCU members for pooling together a total of 4.5 million worth of scholarship to help deserving students fulfill their dreams of obtaining a tertiary education. YB Dr Hou who was guest of honor at a scholarship awards presentation ceremony held at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort here was speaking to a luncheon crowd made of close to 300 parents, scholarship recipients and senior representatives from the donor institutions who are members of MAPCU. 

Dr. Mei Ling Young, Deputy President MAPCU in her welcome speech revealed that the scholarship committee received over 1,557 applications for the 123 scholarships pledged by MAPCU members. After short-listing and interviews, only 41 students have accepted the offer. The criteria for selection are based not just on academic excellence but also the applicants' economic status and participation in co-curricular activities. Ms Margaret Soo, Chief Operating Officer of the UCSI University Foundation says it has always been UCSI University's wish to make available higher educational opportunities to students who will not be able to progress without any financial assistance. 

"UCSI University aspires to provide education opportunities to students from all walks of life, helping to transform them into extraordinary adults with integrity, professionalism, values and desire to contribute to society. By offering merit scholarships and financial assistance to deserving students, the UCSI University Foundation is moving one step closer to helping the University achieve its aspiration in nation building" she said. 

Ms. Soo was joined at the luncheon by MAPCU representatives from Berjaya University College of Hospitality, Inti International University, KDU University College, Monash University Sunway Campus and senior management members from The Sun who included its Managing Editor Mr Chong Cheng Hai and Mr Chandran Ravi, the Senior General Manager.
