UCSI UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE GRADUANDS CELEBRATE WITH GUSTO!

Kuala Terengganu, 24 May, 2011 - The Medical students of the class of 06/11 celebrated their graduation recently at a dinner held in Primula Beach Hotel, Kuala Terengganu. It was truly a jovial occasion as all 41 of them had passed their medical final examinations at their first sitting. With that, this second cohort of students has continued the legacy of a 100% passing rate as per the first cohort of 33 students who graduated last year.

“I am so delighted to witness your success and to receive many positive comments from your medical examiners, with several saying that they would be more than happy to receive you as their housemen,” said Professor Dr Peh Suat Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

“In your future practices, you will encounter people from all walks of life, from different cultural backgrounds. While some may appear ordinary to you, remember that they are as special to their loved ones as you are special to the ones who love you. So, I hope you will care for them just the same, that is, with extraordinary love,” she added.

Having learned that they have qualified their medical degree and are being accredited together, the students had organised a dinner not only to celebrate their accomplishments, but also to thank their professors, lecturers and consultants from the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital before they each begin their housemanship at the various government hospitals in the country.

Joining them at the dinner were parents, faculty and senior staff members, and the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Robert Bong.

Although they already had a precedent to follow, this second cohort of medical students who are housed at UCSI University’s Kuala Terengganu Campus, also faced their own challenges. In spite of having to adjust to a new environment and being away from home, they had stayed focussed and steadfast to reach their goal of qualifying as medical doctors. From this experience, it is apparent that the students had developed a strong bond amongst themselves that would prepare them for lifelong kinship that would make them uniquely successful as doctors with great attributes.

Class 06/11 will graduate with more than 1,000 graduands at UCSI University’s Commemorative Convocation in conjunction with the University’s 25th anniversary celebrations, on 2 & 3 July 2011 at the University’s Kuala Lumpur Campus.
