Visit by students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1 to UCSI University’s Terengganu Campus

MARANG, TERENGGANU - UCSI University’s Terengganu Campus recently welcomed 86 students and teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1 for a campus tour programme.

Upon their arrival, the programme commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Roslan Md. Dali, the current Head of the Student Affairs Office at the campus. This was followed by a corporate video presentation of the University by Ms. Amalina Roslan from the Student Enrolment Centre, who provided the attendees with a brief introduction of the University campuses and its courses.

The next session was an interesting fusion of presentations, where various lecturers presented guests with an overview of specific programmes. The session kicked off with a presentation of the BA (Hons) Education and English programme by Ms. Zuraida Zakaria from the School of Education, who emphasised that students should start thinking about their careers at this stage (in life) and that it was never too early for them to start.

Ms. Wan Arida Azreyanti took the floor next and engaged the audience with her story as a former student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1 and how she became a lecturer at the University. As one of the lecturers for Early Childhood Education, Ms. Absah Adam generously shared her teaching experience with the attendees. During her session, she described her transition from her country of origin – namely, Singapore – to Malaysia and the reason for doing so; to experience new cultures and gain new teaching experience at the University.

At the end of the session, Ms. Mazrifah Aiza Awang – a lecturer for the Oil & Gas Management programme – provided the audience with valuable insight on the future prospects of Oil & Gas Management graduates and the importance of oil and gas management in the industry. She also highlighted that UCSI University was the only university in Malaysia to offer an Oil & Gas Management course unlike conventional programmes specialising in Oil & Gas Engineering.

Throughout the session, emphasis was placed on the many opportunities available at the University – especially in terms of international exposure due to its diverse student community – and making the right career choice.

Various student representatives – namely, Ms. Hafizah Razran from the School of Medicine; Mr. Lucas Wong from the Oil & Gas Management programme; and Ms. Nor Syazlina Ahmed from the School of Education – from different courses also shared their university experience with the students.

They described the University as a “big but very close-knit family” with a diverse international student population, explaining that their presence enabled them to develop better communication skills and a firmer grasp of the English language.

To seal the close of the programme, Mr. Syed Soupi from the Student Activities & Recreational Unit took the students on a short campus tour, allowing them to familiarise themselves with the University’s culture and on-campus facilities. It was apparent that the teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1 were pleased with the programme, as many were effusive in their praise for the well-organised talks and campus tour.

Mr Kamarol Azma Bin Azmi (Teacher, S.K. Sultan Sulaiman 1)
UCSI University (Terengganu Campus) is located in a quiet and serene environment that makes it the ideal learning place for students. This trip was very useful for the students because it opened doors to an entirely new experience and enabled them to understand university life better, thus encouraging them to study harder in order to be a part of such a well-established university.
Ms. Suriani (Teacher, S.K. Sultan Sulaiman 1)
UCSI University (Terengganu Campus) is a very nice place. This trip was a very good opportunity for the students to obtain more knowledge and information about the University and the various courses available. The activities also helped them to set their career path and identify the career suitable for them. It would be great if the University’s students could visit our school in the future and talk to our students to provide them with better insight on making good career decisions and how to become productive leaders.
Ms. Masitah Yusof (Counselor & Teacher, S.K. Sultan Sulaiman 1)
UCSI University (Terengganu Campus) is different from other universities in terms of its strategic location and the variety of courses offered. The trip to the University was a great way to motivate our students and better understand the various programmes offered here. This helped us – as teachers – to provide enhanced guidance for our students in their career choice.
