Workshop On NAO Robot

This workshop was organised by UCSI University’s Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment Assistant Professor Dr Mohamed Khan Afthab Ahamed Khan and Lecturer Chuah Eng Yew, as well as IEEE RAS Malaysia Chapter and Robo Entrepreneur Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.

The event started with a welcoming speech by the Event Chairman, Dr Khan. During the workshop, students from various engineering disciplines were taught the working principles as well as the design and applications of three different robots manufactured by different companies. It was the first time that all the students were given hands-on exposure to an advanced humanoid robot called NAO. Programming concepts about the robot arm and mobile robots were also explained. More than 20 participants were present at the workshop.

The highlight of the event was a group discussion about the future of robotic applications in industries. UCSI’s Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment Manager, Lourdes Mohan Joseph took this opportunity to explain his own project, a robotic hand controlled by servo tiny motors, which can be used as a future student project. The event ended with a closing speech by Dr Khan.
