EDITORIAL BOARD OF GEOSCIENCES LETTERS

Senior Professor Dr Phang Siew Moi, FASc |  Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Postgraduate

Geoscience Letters is the official journal of Asia Oceania Geosciencces Society, and a fully open access journal published by Springer Nature. The journal publishes original, innovative and timely research letter, articles and concise reviews on studies of the Earth and its environment, the planetary and space science.

Professor Dr Phang is also Assistant Editor of Journal of Applied Phycology (Springer Nature), Editorial Board Member of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Journal as well as Maritime Technology and Research.


DASILVA AWARD 2021

Associate Professor Dr Grrace Ng Hui-Suan |  Faculty of Applied Sciences

Dr Grrace Ng, who is also the director of CERVIE, was awarded the DaSilva Award 2021 by Society for Biotechnology, Japan. Her research is titled “An integrated approach for sustainable production of keratinase using aqueous biphasic electrophoresis”.


MSMBB YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD 2021

Associate Professor Ts Dr Lionel In Lian Aun |  Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences

Dr Lionel was awarded the MSMBB Young Scientist Award 2021 at the fourth International Conference on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (ICMBB2021) by the Malaysian Society of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB).


THIRD PLACE IN THE RAPID ORAL PRESENTATION AT THE EMPOWER SEMINAR 2021

Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur D/O Nachatar Singh |  Faculty of Applied Sciences

Dr Satvinder won the third-place prize in the Rapid Oral Presentation at the Empower Seminar 2021: Combating Non-Communicable Diseases Towards Healthy Ageing on 2 – 3 June 2021.

BEST POSTER AWARD AT THE ASIA OCEANIA CONFERENCE ON OBESITY (AOCO-MASO) 2021

Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur D/O Nachatar Singh |  Faculty of Applied Science

Dr Satvinder won the best poster award at the Asia Oceania Conference on Obesity (AOCO-MASO) 2021, an international conference participated by delegates from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Philippines. Her team presented their research entitled “Associations between chrononutrition and chronotype among Malaysian Chinese young adults: Spotlight on timing”.


RECIPIENT OF THE GLOBAL NUTRITION EARLY CAREER SCHOLAR AWARD

Dr Vaidehi A/P Ulaganathan |  Faculty of Applied Science

She was awarded the Global Nutrition Early Career Scholar Award by the American Society for Nutrition. The award was supported by Mondelez International.


FIRST PRIZE FOR BEST SCIENTIFIC EPOSTER PRESENTATION IN PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

She bagged the first prize award for the Best Scientific ePoster Presentation in Professional Category at the International eConference of Fingerprint Analysis. 


RECIPIENTS OF THE FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME (FRGS)

For their project entitled “Circadian rhythm determination and its association with birth and infant outcome, stress, physical activity and chrononutrition among pregnant women in major cities of West Malaysia: A prospective study.”

For their project entitled “Nanocellulose from Leucaena leucocephala as a bioplastic composite for the creation of an intelligent food packaging material.”

For their project entitled “Bioactive plant seed oils coloaded with nanostructured lipid carriers for UV protection and antioxidant activity.”

THEIR PROJECT RECEIVES A GRANT OF RM250,000 BY THE MALAYSIA RESEARCH UNIVERSITY NETWORK (MRUN)

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR LIONEL IN LIAN AUN and ASSISTANT PROFESSOR DR OH SIEW PEI

Congratulations to Associate Professor Dr Lionel In Lian Aun (Faculty Of Applied Sciences) and Assistant Professor Dr Oh Siew Pei  (Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts) for receiving a grant of RM250,000 By the Malaysia Research University Network (MRUN) through the Young Researchers Grant Scheme (MY-RGS). Their project was titled ‘A dual-pronged approach to increase production of farmed tilapia using lactococcal-based vaccination and enzybiotic’. A total of 6 research projects were selected from a grand total of 238 applications amounting to RM1.5million.
