On March 20, 2024, UCSI University Springhill celebrated the launch of its Post-Basic Critical Care Nursing (CCN) Programme and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). The event featured speeches by Yang Berbahagia Puan Devi, Director of Nursing from the Malaysia Nursing Board, and Dr Vicknesh Krishnan, Vice President of the Healthcare Division from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
The launch highlighted the strategic synergy between the new CCN programme and UCSI's healthcare initiatives, aiming to elevate healthcare services. Additionally, the event showcased UCSI's commitment to establishing Springhill as a leading hub for medical tourism as part of the UCSI Health Metropolis. This dual launch event exemplified UCSI's dedication to fostering talent that will drive innovation and excellence in both the healthcare and hospitality sectors.
The event concluded with a tour of UCSI Hospital and the cutting-edge nursing lab, providing attendees with a firsthand experience of the advanced facilities and educational resources available.
On March 4 2024, a food security forum took place, focusing on an open and constructive conversation to identify challenges in implementing policy instruments. This involved defining good project design, minimising duplication and avoiding overlapping functions to optimise resource utilisation while meeting stakeholders' expectations. Panellists from the government, private sector and academia shared their expertise and experiences to introduce innovative approaches in achieving Malaysia's objectives for attaining food security.
On February 24th, 2024, UCSI University hosted an exciting showcase of traditional martial arts. Students from Nippon Sport Science University demonstrated the elegance and power of Aikido, Karate, Kendo, Kyudo, Sumo, and more. At the end of the programme, attendees had the chance to learn about the techniques and also practice them under guidance. The event celebrated the unity and diversity of martial traditions, giving participants a deeper understanding and appreciation for these ancient practices and the cultures they come from.
UCSI University joyously hosted the Alumni Lunar New Year gathering on February 23rd, which successfully brought together over 101 members of our alumni community and their esteemed guests. The event, held on campus, welcomed notable alumni who have made significant strides in their careers, such as the internationally acclaimed piano prodigy Maxy Chan and the innovative architect AR Rien Tan, recently recognised on the "Emerging 40 Under 40" list.
Guests were treated to a delightful culinary experience courtesy of Le Quadri Hotel KL, featuring dishes such as fish with lemon butter sauce, broccoli with mushrooms, lasagne, and more. The evening was further enlivened with engaging mini-games, a lucky draw, and a mesmerising Wushu performance by UCSI's House of Talents.
On February 21 2024, Dato Peter Ng presented Asohan Satkunasingham’s latest book, Charactaire, at Le Quadri Hotel, UCSI University. Charactaire is a practical guide for personal development, focusing on character building and self-discovery. It introduces the CQ – Character Quotient – as an essential requirement for a person’s success. Asohan outlines five essential actions and qualities – Dream, Discipline, Determination, Dedication and Devotion – leading readers on a journey towards realising their personal potential. Asohan's insights are applicable to a wide audience, including corporate leaders, therapists, parents, young couples, students and adults. The book offers valuable lessons for everyone, making it a meaningful read for various walks of life.
UCSI University partnered with HELP University, UTAR, UNIRAZAK, INCEIF University, Wawasan Open University and MMU to form University Library Consortium. The signing was witnessed by Higher Education Director General Prof Dr Azlinda Azman.
On February 6th, 2024, UCSI University's Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, in collaboration with the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, hosted the unforgettable Saudi Arabia and Malaysian Food Festival at Le Quadri Hotel. This event brought together the rich flavours and culinary traditions of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, offering a unique tasting experience that celebrated the diversity and unity of both cultures.
The Green Office Award honours the winners of the Green Office competition, conducted from September to December 2023. The primary aim of the Green Office initiative is to strengthen UCSI's commitment to responsibility, showcasing a dedication to ethical operations. Recognising the growing importance of sustainability, implementing eco-friendly policies becomes pivotal for maintaining a positive corporate image. The event was held at the recent UCSI Group Townhall Meeting which commenced with an address by Dato’ Peter T. S. Ng, the Founder and Executive Chairman of UCSI Group, followed by a Q&A session. Mr. Leong Sat Sing, Vice-President of Group Sustainability, then proceeded by delivering the presentation of the Green Office Awards 2023. The winners of Green Office Awards were the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science as the champion, the Global Engagement Office as the 1st runner-up, the Student Enrolment Centre as the 2nd runner-up, UCSI Property and Leasing Office as the 3rd runner-up, UCSI Group Finance Office as the 4th runner-up, and Le Quadri Hotel Management Office as the 5th runner-up. These awards embody a comprehensive approach aligned with global efforts to address climate change and environmental challenges, making them a vital aspect of responsible and forward-thinking practices.
On January 30th, 2024, UCSI hosted an event at Le Quadri Hotel focused on the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. The event commenced with a keynote address from Distinguished Professor Tan Sri Zakri Abdul Hamid, followed by an impactful introduction from UCSI's Vice President for Group Sustainability, Mr Leong Sat Sing.
The panel featured subject experts and experienced ESG adopters who shared valuable insights.The event included a panel discussion with industry leaders namely, Ms Emily Oi (Business Council for Sustainable Development), Ms Tan Zhi Ying (United Nations Global Compact for Malaysia and Brunei), Mr Lim Chee Yoong (Thumbprints UTD Sdn Bhd) and Mr John Loh (Emerging EPC Sdn Bhd). The conference concluded with a presentation on the Simplified Guide to ESG Reporting for Supply Chain, by Mr Al Fadzriq (Capital Markets Malaysia). It was a valuable opportunity for attendees to gain knowledge and guidance on ESG principles and reporting.
