ADVANCING RESEARCH IN PREGNANCY

Teoh Ai Ni |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)

Teoh Ai Ni was selected by the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) to present her research at the ASN Nutrition 2021 Live Online conference (ASN Nutrition 2021) on 7 – 10 June. Her research was selected by the committee from ASN Nutrition 2021 to be featured in the media. Her supervisor is Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

The title of her research presentation is “When you eat could affect how well you sleep while pregnant”.

Joel Phua Jia Meng |  BSc (Hons) Biotechnology

Joel Phua Jia Meng (an alumnus of the BSc (Hons) Biotechnology programme) was selected to do a year-long high impact research at Harvard University during 2020, under the UCSI University’s Star Trek programme. 


ANTIAGING POTENTIAL OF SUNSCREEN FORMULATED FROM NANOSTRUCTURED LIPID CARRIER AND PALM OIL TOCOTRIENOL-RICH FRACTION

Chu Chee Chin |  Student, Doctor of Philosophy (Science)

Chu Chee Chin, a PhD student from the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS), was awarded the Best Presentation in Drug Delivery and Nanotechnology Award and the Second Prize Award for the Best Oral Presentation at the Inaugural Monash International Health Science and Technology Conference (MONASH INITITIATE 2021) on 16 – 17 June. Her supervisor is Associate Professor Dr Nyam Kar Lin, Head of Research and Postgraduate Studies of FAS.

The title of her research presentation was “Antiaging Potential of Sunscreen Formulated from Nanostructured Lipid Carrier and Palm Oil Tocotrienol-rich Fraction”.


APPLICATION OF KENAF SEED OIL-NANOSTRUCTURED LIPID CARRIERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL PHOTOPROTECTIVE COSMETIC FORMULATION

For her recent impactful article under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr Nyam Kar Lin, Head of Research and Postgraduate Studies (FOAS), titled “Application of Kenaf Seed Oil-Nanostructured Lipid Carriers in the Development of Multifunctional Photoprotective Cosmetic Formulation”, in The Journal of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (JAOCS).

SECOND RUNNER-UP FOR THE ORAL PRESENTATION AWARD (POSTGRADUATE) IN THE UTAR INTERVARSITY SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM 2021 (UISS 2021)

Miss Sim Yan Yi |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)

She was awarded the Second Runner-Up position the Oral Presentation Award (Postgraduate) in The UTAR Intervarsity Science Symposium 2021 (UISS 2021). Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr Nyam Kar Lin, she presented her research entitled “Application of Hibiscus cannabinus L. KR9 (Kenaf) Leaves Extract As Skin Whitening and Anti-Aging Agents in Natural Cosmetic Prototype: Valorization of a by Product”.


TOP 15 FINALISTS OF THE 2021 YSN-ASM CHRYSALIS AWARD

They have been selected as the Top 15 Finalists of the 2021 YSN-ASM Chrysalis Award by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and the Young Scientists Network – ASM (YSN-ASM).

Congratulations to Teoh Ai Ni, a PhD Candidate under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur, on winning the consolation prize in the national level 3-MINUTE RESEARCH & INNOVATION COMPETITION (3-MRI) 2020 under the Postgraduate category. She managed to explain her research in an engaging and concise manner within 3 minutes in video titled “Circadian Rhythm - The Clock Linking Maternal Health to Infant Growth”. The competition was organised by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNiSZA).

Kok Ee Yin |  Bachelor of Science (Honours) Nutrition with Wellness

Congratulations to Kok Ee Yin, a student under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur, on winning the third prize in the national level 3-MINUTE RESEARCH & INNOVATION COMPETITION (3-MRI) 2020. She managed to explain her research in an engaging and concise manner within 3 minutes in video titled “The Association of Light Exposure with Psychosocial Factors among Pregnant Women” under the Undergraduate category. The competition was organised by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNiSZA).

The event was held on 15 to 16 October 2019 at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur.
