UCSI University was honoured to welcome a distinguished delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by the Honourable Maxsudov Jamol Tilloyevich, Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies. The visit, which took place on May 31st, 2024, aimed to foster collaboration and exchange insights on digitisation and digitalisation efforts between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
The event provided a platform for both parties to discuss and learn from each other in areas such as e-governance, data management, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. The visit by the Uzbekistan delegation to UCSI University marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two nations in the digital realm. This meeting is expected to pave the way for further collaboration, joint endeavours and shared progress in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Last evening, we rolled out the red carpet for a truly glamorous affair - the Long Service Award Gala Night! Guests arrived dressed to the nines, ready to celebrate. With more than 120 awards presented, we honoured those who have dedicated over a decade of service to this esteemed institution. The evening's highlight was recognising an incredible 36 years of loyal service by one remarkable staff member! The night was filled with a variety of performances and lucky draws. We would like to thank all our employees for their loyalty, hard work and enduring spirit! You are what makes UCSI what it is today. Here's to many more years of growth and success!
The first Malaysia Towerrunning University Championship at UCSI University saw tower running world champion Soh Wai Ching scaling 12 floors with a time of 1 minute and 4s. Easily besting the competition, the world’s number one tower runner won the Open Individual Men’s category. His presence at UCSI added star power to the Championship that attracted over 200 contestants – representing 19 nations – from 15 Malaysian higher education institutions. The competition also featured three other categories: Open Individual Women, University Men and University Women.
UCSI University had the honour of hosting Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan for an engaging podcast recording session of Keluar Sekejap. The discussion delved into the intricacies of the higher education system in public universities and the future of traditional arts and culture in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The podcast episode promises to be a must-listen for anyone interested in the intersection of higher education, arts, culture and technology.
Presented in collaboration with KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific and Dialog Rakyat, the Sejahtera Malaysia Forum is a platform dedicated to strengthening unity and social cohesion. Held at UCSI University, this event championed a vision of national harmony.
At the forefront of the discussions, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang emphasised the promotion of Rukun Negara's principles to strengthen bonds among Malaysians. Highlighting the government’s commitment, plans were disclosed on the appointment of 50 unity ambassadors and two distinguished unity icons, alongside the establishment of unity complexes across all states in Malaysia.
Expressing delight in co-hosting, Dato’ Peter Ng, executive chairman of UCSI Group, emphasised the paramount significance of unity. Further enriching the discourse, UCSI's vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir, and UCSI Council Member, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Omar Abdul Rahman, contributed as distinguished panellists, amplifying the forum's impact.
On May 4th, 2024, UCSI University proudly hosted the first of three graduation convocations that will be held this year. The event celebrated the achievements of 1,773 graduates from various faculties, including the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Business and Management, Engineering, Technology and Built Environment, and more.
The ceremony saw students from diverse academic backgrounds, including degree, diploma, and postgraduate programmes, walk the stage with pride and joy. The event recognised their hard work, dedication, and the successful completion of their respective courses.
UCSI University is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
This partnership marks a significant platform for UCSI to share Malaysia's developmental expertise, contributing to the socio-economic transformation of Russian citizens.
Additionally, the collaboration harnesses Russia's expertise in scientific and mathematical research, emphasising the critical importance of STEM disciplines. This will empower Malaysian youth to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the nation's advancement.
UCSI Breadboard welcomed Shin Yi Saw and Rex Yeap from Tencent Cloud International to discuss empowering startups in building, growing, and scaling their businesses. Additionally, UCSI Breadboard formalised a memorandum with JS'ON, a coffee startup supported by Tencent Cloud and founded by Jason Wong, a UCSI University alumnus.
On the 22nd of March, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts organised NEXTALK: Leaders of Tomorrow, a day-long event from 10 am to 5 pm. The event featured a panel discussion with Cynthia Ng, Asst Vice President and Anchor at Astro Awani, and Sanadt Kumar, an International Award-Winning Documentary Filmmaker.
Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a sharing session by Annice Lyn, a Documentary and Sports Photographer, and Co-Founder of Women Photographers Malaysia. Workshops included a videography workshop titled “Capture Moments Through the Lens” by Divendran Baskaran, a Video Lead at Cilisos Media Sdn Bhd, and a VR workshop – “Think Digital” by William Chow, the Director of HiveTec.
The event aimed to inspire and empower students by providing insights from accomplished leaders in various fields, fostering a spirit of leadership and innovation among the participants.
On March 20, 2024, UCSI University Springhill celebrated the launch of its Post-Basic Critical Care Nursing (CCN) Programme and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). The event featured speeches by Yang Berbahagia Puan Devi, Director of Nursing from the Malaysia Nursing Board, and Dr Vicknesh Krishnan, Vice President of the Healthcare Division from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
The launch highlighted the strategic synergy between the new CCN programme and UCSI's healthcare initiatives, aiming to elevate healthcare services. Additionally, the event showcased UCSI's commitment to establishing Springhill as a leading hub for medical tourism as part of the UCSI Health Metropolis. This dual launch event exemplified UCSI's dedication to fostering talent that will drive innovation and excellence in both the healthcare and hospitality sectors.
The event concluded with a tour of UCSI Hospital and the cutting-edge nursing lab, providing attendees with a firsthand experience of the advanced facilities and educational resources available.
