Senior Professor Ooi, the World's Top 3 Most Productive Author for Total Quality Management


The Dean of UCSI Graduate Business School, Senior Professor Ooi Keng Boon has been listed as one of the "Top 5 Authors in the World" (ranked # 3) in the area of Total Quality Management (TQM) in a recently published article, “Publication performance and trends in Total Quality Management research: a bibliometric analysis”, https://doi.org/10.1080/14783363.2022.2031962 Total Quality Management & Business Excellence (Ho Yuh-Shan., Cavacece, Ylenia., Moretta Tartaglione, Andrea., & Douglas, Alex., 2022) (Taylor & Francis, SSCI; IF-2020 = 3.824).

This particular paper analyses the scientific production on TQM between 1990 and 2019, which contains 2,633 articles by 5,011 authors extracted from SCI-EXPANDED and SSCI, using rigorous and innovative bibliometric analysis methods. As shown in Table 6, only the top 11 most productive authors in the world were selected.

Senior Professor Ooi said, “The 17 articles that were published thus far are both conceptual and empirical in nature. The research articles have investigated how TQM acts as a catalyst to enhance the quality of work and life, knowledge management, innovation, market orientation, service quality, customer satisfaction, to name a few” 

“For the empirical TQM research, data have been collected from various industries, such as manufacturing enterprises, service firms, commercial banking firms, semi-conductor corporations, etc. to understand how TQM strategies benefit them and add value to the industry current practices. By implementing the right TQM practices, firms are able to foster their relationships with stakeholders, increase employee morale and productivity, and improve innovative processes, which eventually strengthen their competitive position.” "In terms of social implications, the studies can also help in creating job opportunities for the country and contribute to country’s revenue generation", said Senior Professor Ooi, the Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

Presently, Senior Professor Ooi is actively involved with research related to the area of supply chain management, specifically on the digitalization of the supply chain through big data analytics, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. Apart from that, he is also working in the fields of information systems and mobile technology, which includes social commerce, mobile payment, etc.

Over the last few years, Senior Prof Ooi has been ranked globally such as among the World's Top 10 Core Authors (ranked #1) in ‘Social Commerce’ (Li et al., 2018)), World's Most Productive Authors (ranked #1) in ‘Mobile Commerce’ (Du and Li, 2019), World's Top Authors and High Impact Researchers in ‘Technology Acceptance Model; Mobile Payment; UTAUT’ (ranked #6) (2020), World's Top 2% Scientists according to a report published by Stanford University (2021) and World’s Top 50 Most Productive and Influential authors (ranked #42) in the research discipline of ‘Knowledge Management’ (Magaly Gaviria-Marin et al., 2019) and many others.

In 2022 alone, his work has been acknowledged as one of the ‘Most Cited Articles’ in Technology in Society (Elsevier, SSCI; IF-2020 = 4.192), International Journal of Production Research (Taylor and Francis, SCI; SCIE, IF-2020 = 8.568), and International Journal of Information Management (Elsevier; SSCI; IF-2020 = 14.098).

Senior Prof Ooi has published more than 100 papers in international refereed journals indexed to Thomson Reuters ISI-Web of Science (SSCI/SCI/SCIE), of which more than 70 papers have been published in A /A*-ranked journals based on the 2019 Australian Business Deans’ Council (ABDC) Journal Quality List. His current Google Scholar Citation H-index is 72 (Scopus H-index = 56; Clarivate Analytics-Web of Science H-Index = 48 as of 21st March 2022), with over 16,000 citations received from diverse authors and journals across the fields of information technology and industrial management.
