The congress was hosted by KSSO between 2 and 4 September 2021. Her title of presentation was “Relationship Between Diet Quality with Weight Status Among Urban Poor Adolescents Living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia”.

Abbirami Balachandran |  Student, Doctor of Philosophy (Science)for winning the Best Presentation Award out of the 52 posters presented at Asian Symposium of Medicinal Plants and Spices XVII (2021) held on the 18 and 19 August 2021. The title of her poster presentation was “ABPA Increases Glucose Uptake in L6 Skeletal Muscle Cells via The Activation of p38 MAPK-GLUT4 Pathway”.
The event was organised by Malaysian Natural Products Society (MNPS) along with c-organisers such as Institut Kimia Malaysia (KM), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Phytochemical Society of Asia (PSA) and Japan Analytical Industry Co., Ltd. (JAI).

Professor Dr Phang is also Assistant Editor of Journal of Applied Phycology (Springer Nature), Editorial Board Member of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Journal as well as Maritime Technology and Research.

How Yu Hsuan |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)How Yu Hsuan was awarded the Best Presenter for 3-Minute Poster Presentation (3MPP) Award under the Biotechnology (Postgraduate) category at the 4th International Conference on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (ICMBB2021) on 1 – 3 June. Her supervisor is Assistant Professor Dr Pui Liew Phing, Head of the Food Science Department under FOAS.
Her research presentation is entitled Optimisation of milk fermentation incorporated with recombinant Lactococcus lactics NZ3900.

Christina Chong Shook Cheng |  MSc Applied Sciences by ResearchChristina Chong Shook Cheng was awarded the Best Presenter for 3-Minute Poster Presentation (3MPP) Award under the Biotechnology (Postgraduate) category at the 4th International Conference on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (ICMBB2021) on 1 – 3 June. Her supervisor is Associate Professor Dr Crystale Lim Siew Ying, Deputy Dean of FOAS.
The title of her presentation is Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of WHO priority pathogens isolated from Acute Pharyngitis Patients in Private Primary Care Clinics.
DOUBLE AWARD AT MONASH INITIATE 2021
Chu Chee Chin |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)Chu Chee Chin was awarded the Best Presentation in Drug Delivery and Nanotechnology Award and the Second Prize Award for the Best Oral Presentation at the Inaugural Monash International Health Science and Technology Conference (MONASH INITITIATE 2021) on 16 – 17 June. Her supervisor is Associate Professor Dr Nyam Kar Lin, Head of Research and Postgraduate Studies of FAS.
The title of her research presentation was “Antiaging Potential of Sunscreen Formulated from Nanostructured Lipid Carrier and Palm Oil Tocotrienol-rich Fraction”.
ADVANCING RESEARCH IN PREGNANCY
Teoh Ai Ni |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)Teoh Ai Ni was selected by the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) to present her research at the ASN Nutrition 2021 Live Online conference (ASN Nutrition 2021) on 7 – 10 June. Her research was selected by the committee from ASN Nutrition 2021 to be featured in the media. Her supervisor is Assistant Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
The title of her research presentation is “When you eat could affect how well you sleep while pregnant”.

Associate Professor Dr Grrace Ng Hui-Suan |  Faculty of Applied SciencesDr Grrace Ng, who is also the director of CERVIE, was awarded the DaSilva Award 2021 by Society for Biotechnology, Japan. Her research is titled “An integrated approach for sustainable production of keratinase using aqueous biphasic electrophoresis”.
