SIMPLE DIY MODEL SERIES FOR DNA FINGERPRINTING

for winning the Year 2021 MTSF Science Education Award (Runner-Up Prize) awarded by Malaysia Toray Science Foundation in recognition of their innovative and effective teaching methods in science education.

The winning project, entitled “Simple DIY Model Series for DNA Fingerprinting,” was developed to introduce DNA Fingerprinting to pre-university students in a fun and interactive approach.

SENIOR PROFESSOR DR PHANG SIEW MOI AND ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR ERIC CHAN WEI CHIANG |  Faculty of Applied Sciences

Named in the “2020 Single Year World’s Top 2% Scientists” in the exercise that was released on October 20, Professor Dr Phang was named in the category of marine biology and hydrobiology and under the subfield of biotechnology; Associate Professor Dr Eric was listed for his research in the category of pharmacology and pharmacy and under the subfield of food science.


IUNS INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CAPACITY AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN NUTRITION SCIENCES.

NURULSYAHIRAH BINTI AWANG MARSHIDI |  Doctor of Philosophy (Science)

Nurulsyahirah was selected as one of the participants for the IUNS International Workshop on Capacity and Leadership Development in Nutrition Sciences.

She is one of the 20 young researchers selected from Asian countries to participate in this workshop.


WOMEN EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2021

BEST POSTER PRESENTATION AWARD AT THE 45TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE MALAYSIAN SOCIETY FOR BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY 2021

Chan Chong Joo, a PhD student from the Faculty of Applied Sciences was awarded the Best Poster Presentation Award out of 69 posters presented, at the 45th Annual Conference of The Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in conjunction with the 2nd International Health and Medical Science Conference, on 18 to 19 August 2021. This event was in collaboration with the Young Scientist Network Malaysia (YSN).

The title of his poster presentation was "Downregulation of Specific Immunoglobulins Responses in Mice Fed with Recombinant Lactococcus Lactis Harbouring Ara H 2.02b Peanut Allergen". His supervisor was Associate Professor Dr Renee Lim Lay Hong from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.


BEST ORAL PRESENTATION

Congratulations to Janice Tay Ee Fang for winning the “Best Oral Presentation” in International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome (ICOMES) 2021. The congress was hosted by KSSO between 2 and 4 September 2021. Her title of presentation was “Relationship Between Diet Quality with Weight Status Among Urban Poor Adolescents Living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia”.


ABPA INCREASES GLUCOSE UPTAKE IN L6 SKELETAL MUSCLE CELLS VIA THE ACTIVATION OF P38 MAPK-GLUT4 PATHWAY

for winning the Best Presentation Award out of the 52 posters presented at Asian Symposium of Medicinal Plants and Spices XVII (2021) held on the 18 and 19 August 2021. The title of her poster presentation was “ABPA Increases Glucose Uptake in L6 Skeletal Muscle Cells via The Activation of p38 MAPK-GLUT4 Pathway”.

The event was organised by Malaysian Natural Products Society (MNPS) along with c-organisers such as Institut Kimia Malaysia (KM), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Phytochemical Society of Asia (PSA) and Japan Analytical Industry Co., Ltd. (JAI).

The title of her poster presentation was “Storage stability of recombinant Lactococcus lactis NZ3900 in fermented milk”.
